Friendly spot in a great college town.
I have been eating at Poor Billy's for over 10 years and have been thee 20+ times. It used to be a great restaurant, but in the last few years the quality has gone way down hill. I gave it another try in late January 2017 and it has taken another step down by reducing it's menu selection greatly.Poor Billy's is a shadow of itself, don't waste your money, go elsewhere.
Beautiful bar, great seafood, cool lighting! Classy atmosphere, professional bar and waitstaff/excellent service!
Amazing steak and sushi. I love this place
I went on a Tuesday night. Had to ask to be seated, sat at my table for over ten minutes with my menu closed in front of me. No one ever came to get my drink order or even say hello. Was interested in ordering French onion soup and ribeye. I finally got up, handed my menu to the sushi lady and left. BAD SERVICE!! Can't comment on the food because I never got a chance to try it. Good luck staying in business in downtown Blacksburg with all the other competition.
This was our first visit to Poor Billy's. We were pleasantly surprised. I thought the menu would be sandwiches, but not so. They just changed the menu this week--lots of seafood; the shrimp and grits was amazing. Excellent food and service. We will definitely go back.
They triple booked an event we had scheduled far in advance and then wouldn't let us in. No communication among managers. They were really rude about it too. Avoid at all costs.
Very fresh sea food and great price and service. The crab legs are delicious, shrimps are tender and flavorful. And the oysters are so fresh my husband loved it so much. Highly recommend!
The place was not crowded during typical lunch peak time. Ordered a cup of French onion soup and four plates of rolls with another friend. The soup was overly salted. The taste and size of the rolls were okay and they offered half price for the rolls during lunch time.
In town for work and found a spot with my namesake. Awesome sushi and drinks. The owner, Billy, was awesome and approachable. Repeat trips are required
Nice place to eat with a friends
Crummy service. No waitresses were there. The bartender was taking care of tables. He didn't know what to do. Took forever to get my food although it wasn't busy. I had to go to the kitchen to ask the cooks about everything. They were very helpful. I got the steamed shrimp which was very good but they didn't have any cocktail sauce....he had to make it while my shrimp got cold.
Was seated and the never waited on. Waited 10 min and the waiter never came so we left. The menu was also shortened and prices were increased to bamboozle the parents coming to see the football game. Overall bad experience which was a shame since I've been before and the food was pretty good...
The food was worth the wait! The service was pretty good. They could all stand to smile a little more. The staff seemed a little unorganized and they were out of alot of items but I'm sure it probably has something to do with the VT game and Senior Day. All in all, I would definitely go back. Our appetizers were awesome. The portion sizes of sushi are huge. Entree Ribeye was amazingly flavored and cooked to desired tempurature.
This was actually the worst decision I ever made. We got sushi and it was horrible and our waiter was extremely scatterbrained. I only gave it two stars because it’s a cute restaurant. The only thing good was my Caesar salad and we ended up having to go somewhere else to eat.
A strong dose of real, yacht club night life. Cool blue lighting, and high class bar scene. Bourbon Street theme. The very best in seafood specialties, favorites and surf ‘n turf style entrees.Professional bar and waitstaff.Great drinks, a variety of beer selections - and generally a sophisticated atmosphere.Always a good time had by all who patronize this establishment!
Great food, little pricey but worth it.
Fantastic bar and grill with an open bar feel atmosphere nicely lit room, great staff and manager most definitely recommended for locals who like to try out different restaurants they also have a Big Al's where you can play some pool upstairs.Menus are simple, not confusing and straight to the point. Beverages are Coke products and alcohol.Attachments will show there current food options.
Service was good but made mistakes... Menu was short on options... No suchi... Drink specials were nice and the food (that came on time) was really good, the blackened fish and the salmon were great, the appetizer was also good... Missing bread and a few uncomfortable situations... Management not really engaged.
This restaurant used to be phenomenal. This used to be my go to restaurant for 10+ years. Over the last couple years, their quality of food and service has deteriorated while their prices have increased. If you have a party greater than six don't waste your time going here. Honestly, I would look elsewhere unless your simply in the mood for sushi and drinks.
Terrible service! We wait 10 minutes to get a drink and no one came around for our order. The hostess ended up serving us but he blamed the wait on his underperforming waitress. We ended up leaving 5$ for my beer and doing a shady exit. This was on a game night. This restaurant needs a serious upgrade on restaurant hospitality.
Great place!!! The food is the best really good flavor and a lot to choose from including sea food. The staff is terrific some of the best people u could meet and they care about their customers and neighbors. They have an awesome kitchen staff great people not bad to look at either lol they have great bar staff also the ones i have met. Im not a drinker but they have some awesome exotic mix drinks going on there. I totally recommend going in there and giving it a try whether to eat or for drinks or both u will not regret it trust that
Wow!! It's not seafood anymore..it's a great variety of hearty sandwiches and salads and appetizers, topped off with a smart use of space! Love the balcony tables!!We had a triple decker and a French dip...deeeeelishus!! I hate horseradish, but this sweet sauce was perfect for dipping, plus the au jus was jus as good.Great service, tasty food..and cloth napkins (which I love almost as much as bendy straws).HIGHLY RECOMMEND you try it out next time you're near #VT.#GoHOKIES! And welcome #CoachYoung.#ThisIsHome
This is NOT the Poor Billy's we remember from just a few years ago...food was divine, atmosphere welcoming and significantly more the epitome of 'casual fine dining' with service beyond compare....we hear it's under new management and for that we are grateful. Thank you Anthony and Darrel... you made our 25th anniversary dinner so much more memorable than we anticipated!
The service was fast and friendly, and the food was amazing! Highly recommend the Yakitori and the filet. Great place for a nice dinner!
I have been to this restaurant a few times over the past year and the service and food has always been on point. The sushi is fresh and delicious and they offer a great half off rolls deal during the week. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for good sushi and steak in Blacksburg.
Not the greatest food or service...but when you walk in a see their shirys that say, " complaints, call, 1800eat shi..t, " what should we expect
Sushi was absolutely delicious! Our server was attentive and friendly.
Service was slow. Waited for an hour. The menu online is not accurate. Was told they don't have access to edit it. Actual menu is quite limited. Wanted lobster and was told they didn't have it. Will not be coming back.
Unusual wine selection, along with memorable food. Eclectic mix of food menu items should make it possible to find something to tickle your fancy. In any case, I think whatever you chose will be all you hope for and more.
